Jerry Voorhis served as executive director of the National Cooperative Business Association from 1947 to 1965, and for the next two years as its president. He was instrumental in forming the Group Health Association of America, the National Association of Housing Cooperatives, and the Organization of Cooperatives of America. He was also a leader in the International Cooperative Alliance and he served five terms in Congress in California. He authored writings on cooperatives, politics, human affairs, and religion and published a number of books.
