Roman Eller served as president and chief executive officer of MSI Insurance from 1970-1982, during which time assets, income, and reserves of the company increased fourfold. Eller established the Mutual Service Fund in 1976. This fund awarded annual grants to cooperative development projects and was called by Jerry Voorhis, former National Cooperative Business Association president, one of the most far-reaching philanthropic accomplishments in the country. During his 41-year career at MSI, Eller held leadership positions in a number of cooperative organizations including CARE, the National Cooperative Business Association, Interregional Services Corp., and the Agricultural Cooperative Development International. Eller served as a member of the central committee of the International Cooperative Alliance.
