E. G. Cort (1885-1944)

E. G. Cort was a founder and the general manager of the Minnesota
Co-op Oil Company. He dedicated his total efforts to the new organization, the
nation's first petroleum/farm supply regional cooperative. As the organization
expanded, it was renamed Midland Cooperatives and many years later it merged into
Land O'Lakes. Cort traveled extensively in Europe, Scandinavia and Great Britain
to learn how cooperatives could be expanded. He was instrumental in the formation
of MSI Insurance, Group Health Plan, and Universal Cooperatives. He was a strong
supporter of the National Cooperative Business Association.
